Picking Around

Vintage finds, swap meet, suitcase, fire extinguisher lamp
I've just been picking around.

Nothing too extreme.

Well, actually I am lying about that, but I tell you that story in another post.

I bought this nail bag from Susan at her Must Love Junk Etsy shop.  Browse her shop here.

I had to have it to hang on the front door when I saw the name of the town was "Homeworth".

A blue Samsonite with the baggage claim ticket on it - great shape on the inside.

Two drawers - I have amassed a collection of six - must do something to them soon.

A cute stool - will be painted - don't know what.

Probably time to add an image to it too.

Two Shabby Chic pillows - is that Rachel Ashwell or Laura Ashley - I can and do get them mixed up.

I am getting to love Rachel's Prairie style though.

Hence the blue-striped canvas duck fabric and the white on white fabric.

Such a sweet roses print.

The quilted patchwork pillow had a lovely fabric back of florals also, but I forgot to turn it around.

It is wa-a-a-ay past time for me to finish up my Farragoz class.

I bought these two plaques to add patina.
(And to finish my homework!)

If you love Old World finishes, you would love the course.

What would you do with a vintage brass fire extinguisher?

Make it into a floor lamp!

Bought this at a sale that popped up on the side of the road.

Also bought a neat polo print.

You will have to just imagine the polo print because the computer ate my picture.

I swear.

I am getting faster on this Windows 7, but summer is here and I get lazy.

We start cleaning the pool this week.

I swim daily up to 100 laps.

I almost went into the green lagoon today, but germs stopped me.

See y'all!

*********************************************************************************

This week for Drop It or Swap It, I have this hat - no, not to wear, to decorate with.  A local artisan takes bonnets and shades from the thrift shop and transforms them with vintage buttons, beads, and millinery flowers.

If you want to swap for something of yours, be sure to link to the Drop It Or Swap It link party at Tarnished Royalty. (Go here!)

Last week I did not swap.  Boo hoo.

But I did receive my last two swaps -the lovely tea towels and the seed sowing bag from Tina and Ann.

I should have taken pictures - I know.

UPDATE:  I have swapped the hat for Tina's apron. Yippee! ******************************************************************************

A Little Trunk In My Junk

vintage trunks, shipping trunks Oh, look! I found a little trunk in my junk!

The trunk is about eighteen inches square with a deep tray inside,

Bought at Goodwill recently.

Right when I was taking my money out to pay, the manager came by and told me it was 50% off for next thirty minutes.

The label is still inside along with shipping labels outside.

The shipping labels were for daily trips from Boston.

I wonder what was shipped daily in such a small trunk?

Well, I  can only guess  old L.M.P. carried the secret to his grave.

I love the trunk so much it is a keeper for sure.

Even Chucks said it was a keeper not to be sold.

Now I wish I had thought to buy the three other full-sized trunks while the sale was going on.

I could have had a trunk stack!

I know I have not been joining all the reindeer games in Bloglandia in the last week.

I am still learning this Windows 7.

It does such a great job storing all my pictures, I can never find them to resize and post.

Tonight I was successful after only four #^&*^#@ hours!

I hope I will ...

See y'all!

Black Beauty

Repainting, Americana Decor Chalky Paint, round table makeover
While perusing the OOPS paint shelves at Home Depot -

(No, I do not get money from them.  However I think most of the big box stores need to give each blogger a gift card for being such loyal customers!)

- I was surprised to see a display of their new line of paint Americana Decor Chalky Finish.

I believe I mentioned this before and wondered if they really paid some company to come up with a name like Chalky Finish.

At the present time HD only had sample pots and had not a clue when they would receive a shipment of the quarts.

I purchased two pots.

One soft blue named Serene.

And the other a soft black named Carbon.

You know I usually mix up my own gloopy paint based on the techniques I learned from Farragoz, but the pots were only about eight bucks so I figured I would try it and see.

Remember the table my helper Calvin found in the brush pile?

I decided to give it the Carbon treatment.

Beautiful shape.

Horrible sun-damaged condition.

I was not going to spend the time bringing back the finish.

I am sure she will be placed on a porch somewhere.

I will say I was pleasantly surprised.

The paint is quite creamy.

Goes on smoothly.

Covers very well.

It did take two coats - but I only used about three ounces to do both.

Finished with a clear wax.

I had to buff it again after the photos because it was too hot to apply and buff wax, but I was in a hurry.

I think this southern mahogany girl looks like a black beauty now.

Personally I think she needs a huge Boston fern sitting on a lace cloth.

Maybe place an upholstered chair or two next to her.  Chairs in a distressed white finish with a black patterned fabric.

Stop it, Distressed Donna, you are not going to keep her.

The only flaw I found was a slight crack in one of her feet.  Easily fixed.

Before major temptation set in, I ran her over to Riverfront and stuck her in the booth.

I have used the Serene blue on another project.

Just as soon as it does not take me half a day to move photos from the camera to my picture files, I will post about it.

Actually it is sitting in the living room unfinished.

I now remember I have not waxed it yet..

Or styled it pretty for her picture.

Going to go do that right now.

I will assure regular readers I was very busy shopping and hunting and thrifting and painting through my illness and my computer's corruption incident so I have a lot to share.

My niece Olivia is graduating from high school this weekend so we will be doing the celebration thing.  Though quite frankly we cannot figure out how she got so old so suddenly.

See y'all!
